coastal areas perry >> this morning. an east bay landmark will be reduced to rubble. an historic building at cal state east bay's campus is coming down. kron 4's mike pelton is live in hayward this morning with more on the implosion and why this building has to come down. mike. airline piquancy is standing there 13 stories that is scheduled to come down to hours from now appeared >> we're standing a few yards away from the building itself for safety reasons appeared >> the university president and others will be here in a short time to witness this historic landmark being demolished. >> the building has sat empty for the past two

years and it was determined that is the most seismic invulnerable building because of the earthquake fault. >> scientists are taking advantage of this opportunity and have cited hope to get a better idea of how or where the hayward fault lies and it will be using this bill meanthis buildig explosion for seismologists to determine the earthquake possibilities appeared >> this building explosion

acting as a small earthquake will give the scientist and seismologist a better understanding of the hayward fault. >>and stay with kron-4 for this morning's building implosion at cal state east bay in hayward. it starts at 9 a-m. we will bring it you live right here during our newscast. stream of it on our website -- kron-4 dot com. one person is dead and four others are injured after a late night shooting in oakland it happened around 11p-m on 105th avenue near natress way. when police arrived they found one person dead and two people with life threatening injuries. five ambulances were called to the area and transported the two victims. fire crews say the other two victims suffered minor injuries and managed to walk in to the hospital themselves to be treated for their injures.

no word on the identity of the victims or what caused the shootout. a man is in stable condition at this hour after an early morning crash near the intersection of van ness avenue and ellis street in san francisco. according to police, at around 1:15 a-m, the driver of this s-u-v was headed southbound on van ness when he stuck a tree in the center divide. the impact caused his vehicle to turn over on it's side and slide across adjacent lanes of traffic. fortunately, no one else was injured in the crash. the driver was able to get out of the badly damaged s- u-v on his own before police and firefighters arrived. he was transported to san officers on the scene say been involved. when the new eastern span of the bay bridge opens up after labor day. drivers will have a completely different experience the old span. tells us what commuters can expect the most obvious feature is that the new bridge has side by side east and west bound lanes. no more upper and lower deck, at least to the east of yerba buena

island. the new bridge is also curved and arcs slightly, unobstructed views of san francisco bay. there will be five traffic lanes in each direction, thats the same number as on the old bridge but now there will also be 10 foot wide shoulders on each side. that's good news for drivers because if a vehicle breaks down , it can pull over and traffic can keep moving. the new bridge will also feature a 15 and a half foot wide pedestrian walkway and bikepath along the southside of the eastbound lanes. the walkway will eventually run from oakland to yerba buena island, but will only partially open in september. the old bridge needs to be removed before the walkway can be linked to the island. the new span will also feature an entirely new lighting scheme. there will be 48 thousand led lights mounted on more than 1500 fixtures. the lights will provide even lighting across the roadway and are designed to be almost invisible to oncoming traffic. there will also be new lighting inside the tunnel on yerba buena island.

continuing our coverage on bridge. william ibbs is a civil engineering professor at u- c berkeley. he is concerned about taking down the existing span. >> once we opened a new bridge caltrans attention will be largely focused on the new bridge and make this will be cut back on the old span bridge appeared >> that presents problems that we will have to deal with and if we delay the demolition of the existing bridge and cut back on maintenance on it than the risk increase for things to happen on the old bit bridge. >> if something happens to be old span that it caused a

lot of safety issues and issues of transportation and safety it made sense is not kept up on the old bridge. cal-trans will shut down the bridge starting at eight p-m on thursday august 28-- five a-m on september 3rd. an amber alert which extended from sacramento to mexico for two children deactivated. authorities say, nine- year old lillianna ramirez and three-year old martin rosales were found safely in sacramento. lillianna and martin were kidnapped this past wednesday. the nevada highway patrol says, the suspects are the children's parents martin cisneros rosales and amber schenck. authorities have wrapped up their investigation. into the deadly limousine fire that killed five women. including a bride -to -be on the san mateo bridge as the group was heading to a may. managed to escape the limousine. in addition to the limo driver.

several agencies were investigating the fire. on monday. authorities will release the full report. which will hopefully answer the 9-1-1 calls made to highway patrol during the deadly event. deadly violence continues across egypt. more than 700 people have been killed while the country is under a month- the violence began early wednesday. with egyptian security forces storming two massive makeshift camps. filled with supporters of former president mohammad morsy- who was ousted from office. and muslim brotherhood party. in response, tens of thousands of supporters answered the group's call to protest across egypt. coming up on kron 4 news weekend. first lady michelle obama opens up about everything from raising two teenage

a homeless camp. illegal pot growing. and an environmental disaster. all rolled into one. that's what santa cruz police discovered in a heavily- wooded area, just off highway- 17 near the pasa-tiempo off-ramp. police say, as many as 50 people had been living here for as long as a year. and they were growing and selling marijuana on the streets of santa cruz. many of them using the proceeds to finance the use of harder drugs. crews uprooted and destroyed several hundred pot plants. up the sprawling camp where pesticides, fertilizers and human waste are leeching into a nearby creek.

the camp is on private property, not far from a neighborhood which was threatened by a fire in june. it was a fire thought to camp. a marin county resident has tested positive for the west nile virus. it marks the first human year. nearly 40 people have been reportedly infected with the west nile virus across the state. officials want people to during dusk and dawn. for decades it has been the subject of rumors about u- f- out. the c-i-a is confirming the existence of that mysterious spot in the nevada desert. known as area 51. it did "not" say anything

about flying saucers. the base was reportedly used for high altitude reconnaissance missions. it's back to school season. and that means students are hitting the books. but lugging around hefty backpacks can bring on back pain. even for children. here's carl azuz with how you can help your kids avoid the strain. as follows-- often everything a child needs at school can be found in one place- on their back. from books and notebooks to pencils and other school supplies, it all gets toted all that stuff can really add up in weight, says dr. david marshall, medical director of sports medicine at children's healthcare of atlanta. we're starting to see more and more back pain complaints in the doctors and the sports medicine offices and the question is. is there a correlation between back packs and back pain? marshall is demonstrating how he advises his own daughter to properly wear hers. the way she has it adjusted out it's

girl. live look outside. san jose kidnap victim hannah anderson making her first public appearance this week to reporters. we are also learning more about what investigators found at the home of the man who kidnapped her. and murdered her mother and brother. including indications james preparations for his crime. grant lodes shows us the new details. the newly released search warrant lists dozens of items found in the home: among them, duct tape, an empty handcuff box and incendiary devices. also on the list: letters from hannah and a handwritten note. the contents were not revealed.

investigators said earlier that anderson and her abductor exchanged more than a dozen phone calls on the day she was kidnapped. he picked her up from cheerleading practice and drove her to his home in boulevard, east of san diego. this week, anderson told a social media site that dimaggio had said he was losing his house because of money. she said her family went there to support him. asked how she was separated from her mother and brother she said, "he tied them up in the garage." and added, "i'm done answering questions about it." anderson's friends sheltered fundraiser for the family last night. one of them says anderson is trying to stay strong but can't always conceal the trauma she's suffered. >>"we're all like having a good time, and once everyone gets like this serious look on her face." her grandparents say, right now, she's just trying to get back to being a teenager. >>".the same beautiful smile that you've seen on tv the last two weeks. she's trying to be a normal 16- year-old child, and that's what we're going to help her through." coming up on kron 4 news weekend. we're just 90 minutes away from the

>> when the new eastern span of the bay bridge opens up after labor day. drivers will have a completely different experience compared to crossing over kron 4's charles clifford expect the most obvious feature is that the new bridge has side by side east and west bound lower deck, at least to the east of yerba buena island. the new bridge is also curved and arcs slightly, which will give drivers unobstructed views of san francisco bay. there will be five traffic lanes in each direction, thats the same number as on the old bridge but now there will also be 10 foot wide shoulders on each side. that's good news for drivers because if a vehicle

oakland it happened around 11p-m on 105th avenue near natress way. when police arrived they found one person dead and two people with life threatening injuries. five ambulances were called to the area and transported the two victims. fire crews say the other two victims suffered minor injuries and managed to walk in to the hospital themselves to be treated for their injures. no word on the identity of the victims or what caused the shootout. a man is in stable condition at this hour after an early morning crash near the intersection of van ness avenue and ellis street in san francisco. according to police, at around 1:15 a-m, the driver of this s-u-v was headed southbound on van ness when he stuck a tree in the center divide. the impact caused his vehicle to turn over on it's adjacent lanes of traffic. fortunately, no one else was injured in the crash. the driver was able to get out of the badly damaged s- u-v on his own before police and firefighters arrived. francisco general hospital.

a homeless camp. illegal pot growing. and an environmental disaster. all rolled into one. that's what santa cruz police discovered in a heavily- wooded area, just off highway- 17 near the pasa-tiempo off-ramp. police say, as many as 50 people had been living here for as long as a year. and they were growing and selling marijuana on the streets of santa cruz. many of them using the proceeds to finance the use of harder drugs. crews uprooted and destroyed several hundred pot plants. and then set about cleaning up the sprawling camp where pesticides, fertilizers and human waste are leeching into a nearby creek.
